Vines and wine: what will the outlook be for 2025?

As 2025 draws to a close, our oenologist, Florian Barthassat, has put together a round-up of this year’s harvest to round off 2025 with a look back at the highlights from the vineyard. Enjoy reading it!

“In 2025, the vines’ growing season got off to a flying start, with extremely favourable weather conditions. By contrast, the harvest period was marred by highly changeable weather.

The grape harvest began in glorious sunshine on 26 and 27 August, marking the earliest start to the harvest since 2003! However, five consecutive days of rain disrupted the harvest. Fortunately, the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir intended for our sparkling wines had been brought into the cellar in time.

Work resumed on 3 September with the vinification of the early-ripening grape varieties. However, due to unfavourable weather conditions, ripening was slowed down, or even halted, in some plots. A warm southerly wind, combined with the existing humidity, nevertheless gave an unexpected boost to the ripening of the grapes. The skins became thinner and the juices more concentrated, but, as a negative consequence, the risk of rot also increased significantly. Our teams were therefore constantly on high alert to anticipate any potential deterioration in the vines’ health and to take the necessary measures to harvest grapes of the highest quality.

Mission accomplished! With the exception of a few late-ripening red grape varieties, everything was in the cellar by Friday 19 September. And that turned out to be just as well: a week of rain brought the harvest to a halt after that date.

The harvest resumed on 29 September, with more than 200 litres of rainfall recorded since the end of August. Unprecedented! Once again, nature has done a splendid job: the Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are in superb condition, and the harvest came to a splendid conclusion on 3 October.

This year has therefore brought us an intense and complex harvest, but with an absolutely magnificent result. The 2025 vintage promises distinctive and expressive wines, with a lovely balance.

But what will be remembered above all is the remarkable teamwork, during which the winegrowers and winemakers gave their very best. We look forward to offering you the fruits of our labour for tasting very soon.”
