Founded in September 1994, La Cave de Genève quickly established a link between its wines and the local culture, as reflected in its slogan, ‘Terre de Cultures’.
Each of its wine ranges reveals the full history of Geneva, past and present.
A cultural approach to wine
Wine-growing is first and foremost a form of cultivation, but it is also a time-honoured practice, an art in its own right, which we would like to share with you.
Playing a major role in the Swiss wine market, the company’s reputation extends far beyond the borders of the canton of Geneva.
A small cooperative...
The rich and eventful history of La Cave de Genève dates back to the end of the First World War. In 1929, several winegrowers from the Arve and Lac regions decided to set up a cooperative, which took the name La Cave de La Souche and brought together around fifty members.
In fact, the members of this co-operative were behind Switzerland’s first Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée for wines.
... Will grow up
In 1948, Vin Union was founded and took charge of all winemaking, bottling and marketing operations.
After changing its name several times whilst retaining the generic term ‘La Cave’, the company bottled nearly 80 per cent of Geneva’s wine production in the 1970s.
Its main activity is the processing of grapes into wine and the sale of that wine. The co-operative receives the grapes as soon as they are harvested for winemaking.
Cultivating vines and quality
Based in Satigny since 2007, La Cave de Genève SA invites you to discover and taste, all year round in its shop, fine wines from a bountiful terroir, skilfully cultivated by passionate winegrowers.
Looking to the future
The work of La Cave de Genève SA and its winegrowers is closely linked to environmental issues.
She therefore joined SIG’s ECO21 programme to implement solutions designed to reduce the company’s energy consumption. This marks another step towards greater energy efficiency.
